Reviewer Comments: Just a Taste by Deidre Martin is a realistic look at a grown up romance.
Widower Anthony Dante was not looking for love. He just wanted to cook; well, that’s until a peppy little French woman makes clear her plans to open a bistro across the street from his Italian restaurant.
Vivi just wanted a restaurant of her own. In France, it was hard to find a good position as a chef because she was a woman. Learning that women are respected cooks in America, she packs up and moves with her sister to a new country with grand plans.
One in America, she meets her neighbor and fellow chef Anthony, and finds an unexpected friend.
Through life’s ups and downs Ms. Martin takes the reader on a trip that is pure entertainment. Vivi is a well rounded character trying to adjust to life in a new country and Anthony is a man trying to hold onto life the only way he knows how, by not changing anything.
It’s fun to watch Vivi and Anthony butt heads and to read about Anthony’s younger brother playing Mr. Mom. The different problems that arise throughout the book are realistic and keep the momentum of the story going forward. It’s great that the secondary characters are just as interesting as the main characters, as it encourages the reader to care about the cast of the book.
Just a Taste is a fun book that makes the reader laugh out loud.
